We need to get the rest of the cast of Firefly in our series

  • Kaylee is nominated for something

Outlines

Episode 1:

  • Awakening of Elves
    • Taking of Celebrían
      • Taking of Elves from Cuiviénen – the dark rider
      • Arwen’s reaction to this/Celeborn explaining
    • The decision to go to war against Melkor, but from the Elves’ perspective
      • the fire on the edge of the lake
      • there were major geologic repercussions
      • it looks like the end of the world
      • the world is shaking and going crazy for years – centuries have elapsed
      • Celeborn is a teenager at the beginning of this battle, but he’s an adult by the end of the episode
        • Time passage – looking at a location once, then when returning to it, more buildings/taller/more completed
        • They may have paused on procreation though
      • Oromë arrives/3 ambassadors – the Elves are having a feast of celebration when Oromë rides in and interrupts
        • Elves reacting to Oromë: Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
        • No dialogue – the “we come in peace” thing would be awkward
        • Meeting of 2 cultures – don’t want the Valar to look like imperialists
        • Emphasis on their ambassador’s courage in reaching out to Oromë
        • Can have a little tension, but we still want “harmony”
        • Maybe fear can bring them together
        • No debate

Episode 2:

  • Starlight episode
    • Varda is the one the other Valar go to…she is the one who listens
    • Subplot of Arwen’s friend going to Valinor
      • Peer rather than mentor; someone who was with her in Rivendell
        • Eirien – means “daisy” in Sindarin
        • Third generation, most likely Noldor
          • Need to figure out her family tree if so
          • Not royalty, maybe one of Celebrimbor’s ppl
        • Debate of Valar/Oromë has returned
          • Manwë holds court in Utumno, which is in ruins
          • It’s the last time we see Utumno
          • Ulmo’s disagreement subplot
            • Chaotic good
            • Works against the will of the other Valar
          • Vairë’s tapestries
            • The misinterpreted tapestry of Finwë, Míriel and Feanor
            • The visual representation of doom
            • Mandos proclaims the doom, but Vairë weaves doom behind the scenes
          • Ambassadors in Valinor
            • “Finwë arts and crafts with Aulë” but not jewels
          • Elves waiting for the ambassadors
            • Dislikes Míriel being snippy at camp
            • Part of what makes popular TV so annoying is how they spend so much time manufacturing conflict

Episode 3:

  • The Great Debate
    • All the drama with whether to stay or go
      • Lenwë’s dream (from Ulmo)
        • Trying to argue “it is our purpose to be a blessing to Middle-earth”
        • Would distinguish Lenwë’s choice (wanting to stay with Treebeard…we have a job to do here) vs Avari’s (it’s just a bad idea…we like it here)
      • Following the dark rider back to Angband
        • Mairon/Sauron
          • Why destroy what you can cultivate?
          • Would want to recruit them
          • Why does he take the form of a dark rider?
            • Assertion of strength
          • Thuringwethil – most likely a True Neutral
            • No moral center
            • Sauron’s true point of view can come out with her
            • Likely to have been with Melkor since the destruction of the lamps
            • Not particularly loyal/committed to the cause
          • Draugluin – tortured from the beginning
            • Mairon didn’t set out to torture him, but the process of turning into a werewolf is painful
            • He is violent bc he’s broken…Mairon messed him up
            • Could be more messed up physically/mentally bc Mairon was trying to copy Melkor
          • Tevildo the torturer
            • Cat, so torture for fun fits
            • Independent spirit, doesn’t play well with others bc CAT
            • Melkor’s first Maia-Beast amalgam experiment, that he did when he was at “full power” and thus made “well”
          • Gothmog would be all about the violence
            • Balrogs would hunt Elves like they were game

Episode 4:

  • Thingol and Melian meet, Tom Bombadil cameo
    • When does Tom Bombadil get married? We can follow his story via cameos
    • He can get pulled into the water by Goldberry with Olwë standing there wondering, but there’s nobody in the water when Olwë looks for him (future)
